Mulch Madness

It doesn't show up much in photos, but there is STEAM coming off the mulch pile on this cold morning at the Buellton Community Garden and it is hot to the touch. This heat is generated by the decomposition process. This same process improves and enriches the soil. In addition mulch blocks weeds and helps soil retain moisture. We are spreading mulch to improve the soil anticipation of Spring planting!
